Body Language the Magic of
Gesturing
Gestures are made with hands, head, eyes, fingers
and so forth. You can use a part of the body to tell a person to
come closer to you. This is an indication that you have something
to say. Gestures are either verbal or non-verbal. Gestures will
often express the way a person feels or how a person thinks.
Gestures can send a look of contempt, or else it could send a look
of anger. Gestures can even express affections.
Gestures can say a lot, however some use the body to express more,
while others use the body to express less. It all depends on
cultural environment and the upbringing of the people.
The hands and fingers are used in some religious
groups, thus symbolizing the cross. For example,
Buddhism groups and Hindu groups will use the hand forming a circle
with the index finger and thumb. The two don't really touch points,
but they lap over each other while the other fingers are pointing
upwards.
One of the common gestures a gangster of someone in this arena of
life may symbolize, or even street people is the sign of the
pistol. The person will extend the thumb upward while using the
index finger pointing outwards. The other three fingers are tucked
inside the palm. The gesture could mean deadly results if the
person is pushed, or else a gesture of child play.
At what time a person raises the hand (right) and the ring finger
is touching the palm along with the pinky; and the index and middle
fingers are upright this is known as a benediction symbolism. The
symbolism expresses either a blessing, or else a charm. You want to
note that some customs or cultures will use this or a similar
symbolism to represent the worshipping of Satan.
If you want to let a person know they are talking too much and
wasting your time, thus use the hand, pointing the fingers upward
with the thumb is a straight line. You will then use the thumb and
the fingers in a snapping gesture repeatedly to let the person know
he/she needs to shut-up. You can also put the index finger to the
mouth and with the mouth say shhh, thus it will indicate the person
needs to be quiet. This is more effective since the first method
only signals a sign of contempt.
If you are at a restaurant and want to let the waiter/waitress know
that you are ready to leave. Thus, with the index and thumb
combined wave the hands in the air in a line. You can also use the
thumb and index fingers to make a mark of a check.
Other gestures include the time out command, which the person may
use the fingers to form a T. If you were in Japan however this
gesture would mean I am ready to pay my check to leave the
restaurant.
If a person clenches the fist, thus he/she is stressing hostility,
anger and the like. If you want to apply the subtle gesture to
stress anger you would clench the fist and tuck the thumb between
the index finger and middle finger.
The body is a mysterious creation, which we can all use to
communicate. If you are searching to use the body to effectively
convey messages, read, learn, and practice. The more you read,
learn and practice the better the chances you will have at getting
anywhere in life. The concept that practice makes perfect is off
balance, since nothing in life is perfect, but you can work toward
good body language communication by learning the magic.
