Body Languages and the Magic of Conveyance The languages we convey by use of the body verses the messages people read requires additional evaluation before any of us can give off our opinions as to what the body is saying. As I studied people my entire life I realized that what some people believe to be truth is not always the truth of other people. We are all different and unique in our own way and each of us may convey messages via communication or body language in a different light. How we interpret language is a difference of opinions in most instances, since what man has the right to judge another man.
If you consider body languages and what people believe is true, you will see where I am
going. For example if a person is spotted with the hands up to the eyes rubbing, he or she is considered to be in disbelief or else in doubt. Is this true? Is this a reality that we can all accept? What if the person suffers seasonal allergies or hay fever? Does this mean the person is in disbelief? Does this mean the person is in doubt? NO, it means the person is suffering and the allergies and hay fever are causing him or her to itch. If a person is tired they will often rub the eyes.
A person may believe if a person is seated in an office, at home or where have you, and this person is seated with his hands clasping the back of his head and the legs are crossing over the other, an observer may believe the person is superior and confident in himself. Yet, if a person is seated and crossing a leg over the other, while dangling the feet kicking outward, this person is believed to be bored. If a person is seated in my office applying for a job, and his hands are gripped behind his head and the legs are crossed over, I would think he is a little too comfortable in his environment. Yet who am I? This person could signal superior traits and confidence. But, to what level of superiority is he sending to me? Is he dominant? Is in fully in control? Again, you would need to read the persons facial expressions, listen to him speak, and watch other movements of the body to determine the message he is sending.
If a person is seated or standing and the palms of his hands are open, some people believe this is a sign that the person is open to communicate, sincerely joining you in conversation, and innocent of any intentions. What does this mean? Do we have to sit at an interview with our hands turned upright and palms open? I could hold eye contact with an interviewer, place my hands in a cross-like manner while resting them on my tummy and cupping the other hand and send you a signal that I am sincere, confident, and innocent and open to communication. Yet, how would it differ? Well, first I am using the proper eye contact language, body posture position, body languages, and verbal communication rolled into one to make a point.
Some people feel the hands are misplacement since they are not in touch with the body. Thus, can we read signals from them as we would another person that possibly studies body language? It's your decision. What you see is possible a truth, since many people base body languages on opinions, theories and guesses, and these are based on a small group of people who were observed closely by one or two people. You are your own judge, thus if someone is misinterpreting your body language, you may not be the one in the wrong.
